ABSTRACT

Support is a statement in order to give encouragement to the patient or family in order to arise a feeling of trust to himself, or to cause a sense of sympathy. In patients with post-stroke depression can occur. These conditions lasted continuously without the notice of course have an impact on a person is not good. However, when family support is very large, the spirit to be able to interact with other people there. So at a given poststroke activities such as communicating and discussing it can be prevented in order to avoid depression. The purpose of this study to determine the relationship of family support on the level of depression on post-stroke clients. This study is analytic with peneltian cross sectional design. Independent variables in this study support the family and the dependent variable is the level of poststroke depression. The study population was clients post-stroke. The experiment was conducted 1 June to 30 July 2014. Sample size is 40 people with accidental sampling technique. Data were collected by questionnaire and analyzed using Spearman’s rank. The study found nearly half of 19 respondents or 47.5% had a pretty good family support. Almost half of the 19 respondents, or 47.5% had mild levels of depression. From the analysis of test results are known significant treatment group 0.000 0.05 ≤ α means that Ho is rejected and Ha accepted. So there is a relationship with the level of family support on the client post-stroke depression in Poly nerves Caruban hospitals. Based on these results, it can be concluded that family support is an important role to prevent the occurrence of post-stroke depression on the client. Therefore, each family member must play an active role in providing the enthusiasm and encouragement to clients so as to create confidence in life.
