ALTERNATIF PENGUKURAN BAYI BERAT LAHIR RENDAH

ABSTRACT

Background: Basic Health Researchin 2010 showed that weighing birth weight was 85%. However, West Kalimantan Provinceonly reached 70% and as many as 67% deliveries took place at home. These conditions lead to the potential existence of undetected cases oflow birth weight babies. Low birth weight results in a decrease inintelligence, low immunity, increased morbidity and mortalityas well asmetabolic disorders that would cause the risk of degenerative diseases in adulthood. Aim: to find out the potency of anthropometric measurement ssuch as chest circumference, head circumference and calf circumference as an alternative measurement of surrogate birth weight. Method:a cross sectional method was carried out from May- July 2015 in the health facility areas in Kota Singkawang and Kabupaten Sambas, West Kalimantan. The samples were full term babies who were not twins. They were selected by using purposive sample method. The data of calf circumference, chest circumference and head circumference processed using Pearson’s correlation, ROC, sensitivity and specificity. Results:There were correlation of calf circumference, chest circumference, head circumference, and birth weight. Cut off point for detecting low birth weight in calf circumference, chest circumference and head circumference were 10, 25cm; 30.25cm and 32.50cm. While AUC value located between 0.740 to 0.825 and it showed good accuracy for all measurements. Calf circumference had the highest sensitivity value compared to all measurements. Conclusion:Calf circumference is the most potentially anthropometric measurements as asurrogate measurement of birth weight.
